Right click the game in your steam library and click view CD-Key. Then just copy and paste that key when you are prompted to and you'll be able to play.

DRM = Digital Rights Management. DRM's are added by publishers and developers to try to stop/slow down game piracy, copying, used game market, and other things hindering them from making sales...especially when a game is full price [or close to it]. In the old days, your game-disc had the DRM code attached to it, so you needed game in drive to boot it. These days - the Internet servers often are the DRM. Often, many games only allow you to install the game on a certain number of different PC's - then, you'll have to contact publisher to get the number replenished/increased, if you blow through all the limited installs. Basically, you get a game-key code and you have to activate the game online through the Tages and Deep Silver servers online, before you can even unlock the game to actually play it. There's been a lot of problems here and there last few months w/ people buying Risen download versions [from Amazon and Steam] and people have been unable to activate it through those Tages/Deep Silver servers. I think Tages should be removed on the Steam version of Risen, since Steam itself is also a layer of DRM. Steam itself is a MUCH more reliable, reasonable, and tolerable DRM system - especially when compared to Tages. One layer of DRM is enough on Steam versions of games - b/c Steam versions for DRM will have Steam DRM + any other DRM 3rd party companies feel like adding. More than one set of DRM, that's just flat-out annoying and redundant. Many 3rd party publishers/dev's have wisened-up, though, since 3rd party DRM is often frowned upon w/ Steam versions of games - so, you'll often only see Steam DRM on Steam-sold versions of game. Just follow it. Whether it works or not, hey - that's another story...given how shoddy and on and off, those Deep Silver's Tages servers been, them past few months. |

Have exactly the same problem, but when I try to launch the game, I have noticed that my bly-ray drive starts to search for a disc, looks like they have sold us a disc based activation key......
have been in a rather long dialogue process with the steam support, but without it solving the issue. |

See here: http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=2444811 Once that is gone, no more activation issues. Until then, get the DRM-FREE Risen from Amazon Downloads, game is $6 right now!! |
