Question How do I stop downloading and playing custom sound files?

Hello,

I'm tired of playing a good game of DoD, in a good server, but being very annoyed with the constant custom sounds: "Multi-Kill" "Headshot" "Unstoppable!"

For Day of defeat source, counter-strike source, and half-life, I read of adjusting the config.cfg file with Notepad.

And then, adding these 2 commands:
Code:
cl_downloadfilter "nosounds"
cl_showpluginmessages "0"
Yes, I know about deleting all the files in the folder, Steam/SteamApps/username/day of defeat/dod/sound.

However, whenever I load the game and check the value of those commands, nothing happens. Sounds will auto-download, and I'm stuck where I started.

Is there a way to stop the auto-downloads and auto-playing of custom sounds in Day of Defeat? Any console commands? modifications I can add to my config.cfg?

Thanks!

Note: I've tried some techniques outlined above, but I think they'll only work with the Source version of DoD
