Failed to connect
I'm not sure if it's a port problem as both my laptop and desktop run on the same internet, but my laptop can connect, but my desktop fails to connect. Maybe it's my firewall ports? Please help me. I'd really like to play on my deskop when I'm home.

Sounds like a potential firewall issue indeed. Check the Steam ports info.

I would try going into your router's configuration, temporarily put your desktop into the DMZ (make sure you have the right IP address) and then try connecting to test & see whether it is a firewall issue. Basically by putting it in there you are bypassing the firewall, which normally blocks any connection requests that are initiated from the outside by default. If you were wondering, any connection initiated from the inside that is going out should be able to allow traffic to return back in (for that particular connection) without being blocked. Trying not to get too technical here. Anyway, my D-Link router gives the following description for the DMZ:
DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) is used to allow a single computer on the LAN to be exposed to the Internet. |
