Game ran fine before, doesnt work anymore after crash

I downloaded this game the other day, and i was LOVING it. couldnt get enough... but i was noticing a VERY SMALL problem.

in some places text would not display properly. the (what i assume were) quantities above my potions, for example, were blank yellow boxes rather than numbers. The text that would show up above my avatars portrait and say thigns like "Regulos is" or "The Rook is" (something something) was always obscured (on the bottom half) by blank white boxes rather than letters. i still dont know what those were supposed to be, if anything more than flavor text.

this was fine though, the game was playable, and it was fun enough that i didn't worry myself about it. i was playing through and having a grand old slaughterfest anyway

but then the game crashed... and when i reloaded it... nothing works the same anymore

all text in the game... period... is obscured by blank boxes. in the loading screens, the splash screens, inventories, standings, and skill trees... quantities of items, health and mana displays. descriptions of characters, and (most notably and damning of all) the menus

if i try to open a game by clicking the menu items from memory, the loading screens take forever and sometimes never laod at all.

ive tried restarting the computer, uninstalling and reinstalling the game, running a search on my computer for everything witht he word demigod attached to it and THEN uninstall/reinstall...

what am i to do? the game worked before... surely it can work again. i really enjoyed this and i dont feel like the ONE afternoon i was able to play it justifies the money i spent on it.

if anyone can help, id be really gratefull.

AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core 5600+ 2.9ghz
3.25 GB of RAM (supposed to be 4, xp limits it at 3.25 though)
ATI Radeon HD 4650
