joysticks don't work

Hi there,
i want to play AZS in co-op mode but I can't use the gamepads. When I want to assign buttons in the menu, it just doesn't respond. I tried an XBOX360 wireless controller (which, according to the system preferences works fine) and a logitech dual action gamepad. I'm on OS X 10.7.3

Why would you want to use a game pad for this?
