This is the best place to get info for Skyrim:
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Followers Also, make her essential and she can't die: Open the console and type: setessential a2c8e 1 |

Lydia died in my game also. Exploring east of Whiterun I fell into a crevice and was struggling to get out. That darn Lydia hopped in with me. So now I can't move! I tell here to move over there, but unfortunately I am holding a dagger and her throat is slit. Darn it. I hate when things like that happen.

Just make sure you loot her clothes and take some screen shots first.

I have accidently killed her in combat several times. I just drop back a couple of saves and make sure I don't accidently kill her again. It works ever time.

URGENT!!! - Need Help Immediately....
911: what's your emergency? OP (sounding panicked): My companion is dead! 911 Operator: You say you companion is dead? How did it happen? OP: I think she was killed while I was fighting a dragon, or maybe she died during some random quest I was doing. I'm not sure where or how she died; I just know she’s dead as she hasn't come home for days? 911 Operator (confused): Dragon? Quest? Sir calm down and tell me what's going on? OP (equally confused): Well I was exploring Skyrim and I asked my companion Lydia to follow me may I need your help. So I leave my house in Whiterun and fast travel to...??? a couple of places I suppose, and during a fight with a dragon, or maybe I was fighting some undead, no maybe it was that Centurion, scratch that, it was a giant spider…. no It might have been some Draugr, maybe some bandits... heck she might have been poisoned by a chaurus.... 911 Operator remains silent…. OP: Geez I don't know where or when she died, I just know I went back to Breezehome in Whiterun a couple of days later and realized she wasn't there. I rested 24 hours, then waited another 24 hours and she still hasn’t shown up! That’s when it dawned on me that she died somewhere. Can you help me find her cause out of all the companions I liked her the best. Can you send out the dogs to try and locate her body? I might have some of her blood on my blade as I might have killed her by accident. Will that help? 911 (extremely annoyed) – Sir I think you need to revert back to an earlier save!!! Click. Sorry, I just couldn’t help myself

I actually can't get rid of Lydia (yet) as a companion. I married Aela, then told Lydia to wait at Breezehome, but Aela won't follow me because she thinks I'm two-timing her with Lydia. Geez, I think I need a good attorney 8-).

If you really "like" her, then open console, click on her body, then type in "resurrect" (without quotes), press enter, and she is now alive again.
