Civ5 achievements

first, i'm somewhat computer challenged. i'm 71 and didn't grow up with these things. i've been playing civ since the beginning and really prefer civ5 to civ4. i enjoy trying to get the achievements(85% so far) the problem that i'm having is that i'm building wonders that don't get acknowledged. i have navigated to achievements-debug and on many wonders that i know i have built.... it says that it=0. is this a steam issue or should i contact firaxis? thx in advance for any help

I'm 74 and at 92%. I am trying to get the barbarians to ransom a city. Think this has been my top priority with Civ V for at least a month.

Concerning wonders, are you online with Steam when you build the wonders? Request more details.

hi senior birdman. thx for replying. i'm always online. i just played a game at the chieftain level to make sure that it wasn't me that was messing up. i built all but three of the wonders. then, when i looked at achievements-debug, the follwing information is shown....

I will review your log and compare it with mine and get back. In the meantime, I would be happy to share my thoughts on the approach that I am taking on ransoming by barbarians. Also, I have posted some approaches for filling some elusive achievement squares and can be specific if you are interested. I like to fill squares also. Perhaps we can help each other in this regard.

Suggest going to a 01-14-2012 05:36 PM new thread post by NovaStalker titled "Does the debug panel affect achievements" and reading the replies.

The log list I get after doing that looks a bit different with a "(U)" or "(L)" feature and "Unlocked" or "Locked" text to help pin things down.

Another item to consider is to check that your system allows Steam to have two way communication all the time. You may have a firewall setting that restricts Steam's ability to monitor your progress. Even if it was working fine before, a recent security setting could have changed things. This could be due to a Windows update or a virus protection update.

ok... i think i get it. i should only have the achievement _debug =1 when i am checking for something. is this what you mean? yes, i would like to share and compare notes with you. just so you know, i can win almost always at the king level. emperor is the level i should be on if i want a challenge with a good chance of winning. i use tactics from the deity players on these levels but i just don't like being an era behind on the immortal/deity settings. anyways thx again for your help hope to hear from you soon.

Sorry if I misled you. What I meant to convey is that you need to follow the steps and restart the game if you want the latest update on your debug list.

If Steam is not giving you credit on your achievement list that appears in Library just after you specify the Steam game that you wish to play, or not giving you credit while playing the game with a popup each time you attain a new achievement, then I think you need to make certain that Steam is allowed two way communication by your system and is not being blocked by any firewalls.

If you need to fill the Sink an Ironclad with a Turtle Boat square, I can help you get there. If you want to fill the scenario square to Lose as Korea, I can help you there. If you want to sink 357 ships as Elizabeth, I can help you there. I will make a list of the thirteen I need to unlock besides Threw a Car at my Head and pass them shortly. If you are going after the Model of a Modern Major General, I can help you there.

P.S. My wife informed me this morning when I gave her a data dump that a lot of bloggers interpret capital letters as SHOUTING. My eyes are finally losing some of what used to me 20/20 near vision, and I have used caps for emphasis and to make important points easier to read. Nuff said on this point.
