Invalid Key?

I just recently purchased F.E.A.R. 2 from BestBuy, and the key the game gave me will not register on Steam; though the game is supported for retail keys. Any clue what's going on here?

If I remember right, sometimes the O's and 0's (zeros) get switched with some keys. If you have any O's, try replacing them with zeros. If you have zeros, try using O's instead. See if that works.

Hmm.. Well my key doesn't actually have any O's or 0's.

I downloaded the game through Best Buy (horrible, I know, but I had to use the gift card) and as from as far as I could tell, the retail key it sent me should activate. This is what I'd found through their end, and FEAR 2 is a retail activate-able game on Steam. Maybe they just sent me a broken key to begin with?

I've had horrible experiences with Best Buy. I'm staying as far away as possible from them. Try contacting them and/or Steam support.

As have I, their support is pretty awful.

However, I sent a support ticket to Steam a few hours ago, so hopefully I'll get a response within a few days to clear this up.

Did you try any of the other tips in the link I posted?
