Maybe Half-Life first, then try Opposing Force and finally Blue Shift. You can shift between these. Team Fortress Classic isn't so canon, I think, so you can play that when you want.

technically you cant play the games in chronological order. they chronology of each game overlaps.
ive never really understood the obsession with playing things or watching things in chronological order. good storytelling is always independent of chronology. the way things are revealed in the Half Life games, it just makes more sense to play them in the order they are released: Half Life Opposing Force Blue Shift i dont want to give any spoilers but things will make more sense if you play them in that order. also, remember Half Life is the story. the other two just supplement it. if a story takes place "out of order" there is normally a reason for it. it normally hurts the story and the impact of certain events to reorder the story into chronological order. some of the best storys of all time use nonlinear storytelling. i shudder to think of what some people in this topic would do those particular works. |

I'd play Blue Shift before Opposing Force, as OF is more exciting than BS, so Blue Shift might come off as an anticlimax.
