In an earlier patch, they made the ores in the game sparkle. It looked really cool, but it doesn't happen in my game at all. Did they remove it in a later patch, or is there a certain setting to have it on?

Perhaps you were using a Spelunker potion? It reveals ores around you by making them emit a glow.
