Someone Make EP3

Why don't some ambitious modders like those dudes that are remaking HL1 make their own HL3? I'd play it.

And if it didn't totally suck, I think we could all pretend it was the actual EP3 until that came out.

It would be very difficult to create appropriate textures for a new setting, and an "Episode 3" with old textures simply would look ridicolous.
I'd rather play a mod which plays after Episode 3, but in which you don't play as Gordon Freeman.
Perhaps you could play a rebel who is inside the rocket base when the Advisers attack. You have to flee and make you way through the wastelands and canals outside the forest and perhaps fight against Advisors or something.

Thread approved. Users are clever and some MODs have been created in a short period of time. I would happily play it, even if it wasn't up to the graphical standard of EP1 or EP2.

Something internal has caused Black Mesa to become vaporware - they should have released it by 2009 and it even made WIRED's Vaporware 2010 list. It’s not coming out, despite what the site says. Like Valve, they don't care what you want or think, and I believe the developers just lost interest.

Pretty sure that as it currently stands, Black Mesa is the single best argument against total-conversion-megaproject mods.

In fact, it always will be: even if it is released, it's taken a ludicrous amount of time and overrun its own deadlines multiple times. That's hardly a model for future projects.

Black Mesa is "almost" done, according to creators.

Hasn't it been "almost" done for years now?

I think it is only not feasible to make a EP3 mod because the modders have to do it in their spare time.

I think the modders are actually better at what they do than Valve is AND they are more ambitious.

These people work in their spare time and make amazing things.
Imagine if they had the actual time and money to create?

They'd do a better job than Valve and faster.

Damn, I need to start my own gaming company.
Any rich investors out here?

Sure, in the same sense that EP3 was to be released in Christmas 2007.

Plans change all the time in game development. Black Mesa missed one deadline, and that was 2009. Since then, they've been hard at work, and they've continued releasing media on their forums and on their wiki.

I don't actually follow its development.
I just recall that I've seen it be almost done a few years ago and then rumors it was almost done last year.

I wasn't criticizing them.
They work in their spare time.
They are dedicated fans doing an awesome job.

I'm just saying. It is has been about to release before.

I believe it suffers from ValveTime

I'd rather play the official HL3/EP3.

Just to be clear, not hating modders.

Also not really hating.
Just aggravated at Valve.

And simply trying to discredit their contribution to gaming on a daily basis, right?
