Magicka Graphic Card killer?
So far out of all the games I've played, Magicka seems to be the main graphic card killer for me. I use to have an ASUS Nvidia 9800 GT but that was killed from artifacting and overheat. Magicka would crash once in a while after some purple flickers.
I recently bought an MSI 250 GTS and ran that. It would mostly be at 30-35 C idle and 40-50 C when playing games. When I play Magicka it would go up to 70-80 C and so far its the only game that would get this hot. I recently used afterburner and now its between 50-60 C as the fan speed up but I still see purple flickers once in a while like if its killing my video card. I'm a bit skeptical about playing it again. Does anyone know why Magicka is so hard on video cards? |

Because the studio had seven people and they couldn't afford to spend time on optimisation.

Is there anyways to improve this? Are there any chances that my video card might burn out again? (its a new one but the purple flickering sometimes scare me)

The purple flicker can be related to driver and/or Intel graphics. On Laptops (yes I know your probably not on a lappy) totally disabling the "low end" Intel graphic solution have helped. Also, nVidia drivers from before ~May -11 have given similar problems.
But. As you recently bought the 250 GTS, I guess you have more resent drivers. And probably no Intel graphics to disable. (?) If you manage to keep your temp below ~70 C, I'd say there's no way a game can destroy your card. |
