Well, seeing there are many people here who wondered how the map was created. I'm a mapper for Source SDK and knowing what the limits are, Robert Briscoe brought the engine to its extreme limits!
If you really want to know how the map is constructed, you could decompile it with some easy, free programs. However, it would ruin your principal feel and interpretition of the map, that I'm sure of. When I decompiled some maps, I knew them from the in and outside with the result in the map not being surprising anymore. So I advise against it x) But you can always try. Also, the keys that I found are indeed inside that 'bunker'. Quick reply for anyone, I started to make and entire walkthrought: Level 1 (The Lighthouse) = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4oYFTwPCf6o Level 2 (The Buoy) = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHGRLAdsEKg Level 3 (The Caves) = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8_zKPqA3Wc Level 4 (The Beacon) = http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Obl7_-tT3hg They are all in 1080p, and frankly: THERE IS NO BETTER QUALITY along the entire Youtube walkthroughts. I record the footage in RAW quality, then I render them at the highest settings possible so that when Youtube encodes them again (as usual) there is almost no quality loss (or at least the highest quality Youtube can offer). Also, audio wise it's the highest you can get. Many other wlakthroughts are laggy or have stupid commentary added (which ruins the atmosphere) or simply no HD or the wrong resolution which Youtube accept incorrectly as 1080p etc etc. Also, they are not divided in parts because I don't want some1 who watches it to stop in the middle of the story and then go to another video. (Big spoilers of course for those who didn't played it yet.) Have fun! Last edited by jorre22225: 02-20-2012 at 01:30 AM. |

Not sure if it's mentioned (probably has), but in the caves, you walk over a rock bridge with a small river going under you. A single paper boat floats by under you...
[Infact the video walk thru above shows it!] Last edited by NeilF: 02-20-2012 at 06:12 AM. |

found that while starting my second playthrough in chapter one near the end of the map at these stonehenge like rock formations:
http://s1.directupload.net/images/120220/j3cdf9uf.jpg http://s7.directupload.net/images/120220/k5qecou8.jpg at the rock formations, that where build to manifest the first encountered scripture on that island (as told by the main characters voice), the bible, there was a second, new chemestry book beside the bible book and a new chemistry formula painted on the rock in the center, which wasn't there at the first playthrough i am sure. thought it's worth a mention, since dear esther seems to be full of unique events and changes that happen while restarting it. at first i thought i just missed it while doing the first playthrough, but since there are so many things happening in-game i am sure now, it wasn't there before! can someone confirm this please? great list, keep it growing. ps: in the "are you alone on the island?" thread there are also good "noclip" shots of some of the ghost sightings, maybe you wanna add or replace them @threadstarter. |

i heard it before, at other rocks near the center one (first journey) - also some fragmented voices beside the radio statics, but cant recall them while finding the new book and the new painting there... this "game" is so mysterious.

Two interesting things I recently found:
1) At the bottom of the hill where the Bothy sits, there is a small stone shed. In it are some hypodermic needles. They're not just part of the ground texture, they were placed there deliberately. Beside the Bothy itself is an identical stone shack, and in this one, there is a piece of paper. It seems to be a toxicology report from the department of pathology at a "London Clinic". The test results all came back negative. It's difficult to see, but I *think* the patient's name is Esther. Since this is from the department of pathology, we can conclude that this is a post-mortem test for substances, which might indicate that Esther was driving her car, not the narrator... http://i.imgur.com/8U3nh.jpg 2) When you go down the hill from the Bothy and past the skeleton of the ship on the beach, you can enter the cave or veer off to the right to a dead-end canyon. On my second playthrough, I went to the end of this canyon and there were some suitcases, with clothes scattered about. On my third playthrough, all I found at the end of the canyon was an unnerving number of copies of Donnelly's book, Hebridean History. Considering the narrator has said it's an obscure book, and he stole his copy from a library in Edinburgh where it hadn't been touched since 1974... this is weeeird. http://i.imgur.com/Uh81j.jpg Anyone else find anything different in this canyon? |

next gameplay ..I will take a screenshot of it..
About the image of Esther, I believe, I saw a photo more detail about a woman in the cave, in my first gameplay that look more like the figure lighted by the candle. Maybe, that picture is the woman that the talk about something of marriage problems? not remember well.. Just my ideas.. and sorry for my english..

I think the stone marker behind the bothy has been mentioned a few times. These are the two stone markers down below the bothy amongst the field walls. Not sure what these are supposed to represent - grave markers ? Each time I approached one there was either static playing or the sound of brakes screeching.

I haven't seen these mentioned before either. In amongst the rocks on the beach with the wooden hull wreck - a warning road sign and a traffic cone.....
