Exception in engineInit

I can't run Max Payne at all on Windows 7 64-bit. I get the following message:

Exception in engineInit: Message translation in file "CameraPaths.txt" failed:
Parsing message "MaxPayne_GameMode->A_PlaySound(camera, shot_01);" by "X_CameraPath" caused following error:

\data\database\Sounds\camera\camera_shot_01.wav it [sic] not a valid WAVE-file

Couldn't find any fixes for this on Google, game cache verification reported no problems, and I've run it three times now with the same result. This was the first time I started this game since I installed Windows 7.
