Man I was so excited when I finally saw this in the App Store, then come to find out that my 3G isn't compatible.. huge letdown, but I will keep my patience on this one.. make it happen Valve

More likely Apple time in this case. The Android app has had several updates. iOS would surely have these, too, if Apple's approval methods weren't so slow.

Even if it is Apple that are dragging there heels it still sucks that as far as I can see Valve have not updated us on the situation for several weeks.

Ok... I got tired of waiting, so I manually installed the app on my iPhone 3G, and it seems to work just fine.

Rather than following Thebigone's instructions (which basically set your phone to pretend it's one of the newer models), I just downloaded the App from iTunes to my computer and then manually added the app to the phone.

You still need to have your phone jailbroken... but this way doesn't change your phone's settings.

Here's more or less what I did (based on other manual .ipa installation instructions):

1. Browse to the Steam Mobile app in the iTunes app store and click on the "Free App" button to download the app.
2. Find the downloaded app.. default location on Win 7 is C:\Users\username\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\Mobile Applications\Steam 1.0 1.ipa
3. Rename Steam 1.0 1.ipa to Steam 1.0 1.zip
4. Extract the "Steam.app" folder from Steam 1.0 1.zip (it is in the "Payload" folder) and copy it to your phone under "/Applications"
5. chmod -R 755 /Applications/Steam.app
6. Restart Springboard (or the phone)
