Apparently in Ferdok harbour there is supposed to be a Captain NPC on deck of this ship, who acts as a questgiver.
This NPC seems to have been added with the v1.1 patch or the Gold version of the game. Since I am playing the Steam version of the game, I am wondering, where do you check for the installed version of the game? And where exactly is the Captain supposed to be found. Thanks. |

I just play Drakensang: River of Time. Version number is in the down corner of Options menue ingame, or look in the drakensang folder for a readme.
The captain was in 1.1, because i've installed gold patch after a playthrough. Long time ago when i play Drakensang 1... Don't know if the captain really has a quest. I only remember that i have buyed an armor from him. Stands in the ferdok harbour on his ship, but it's later in the game. |

On the main menu or on the options pages, looked there, alas no version number to be found in the original Drakensang game.
I noted that a file: D:\Games\Steam\steamapps\common\drakensang\patch1.npk is present, but there is no readme or version file there. Checking the .exe for a version also yields nothing. I checked all ships, no-one there, the first time I entered Ferdok, and later when all quests are done but the final showdown on Mount Drakensang. Could this be an English version limitation? Do you remember on what ship he was standing? There are four on the southern "shore" (the eastern-most one would in theory let you get on board) and one docked to the platform to the north of the harbour. Thanks for the feedback. |

I've looked a picture (german guide) and it was in the near of the place where "Ardo" was murdered.. In the middle are 2 ships nearby, there the captain must be.
EDIT: You can also look in the official forums http://forum.dtp-entertainment.com/viewforum.php?f=64 scroll a little bit to see the english forums

OK searched some more... apparently the Steam version of the game does not feature the Captain... it is part of the *properly* installed Gold version. If Steam is distributing the gold version, which I doubt, then they did not properly install the Gold patch. Read that several folks had problems with installing the patch in the default windows programs folder. They then did not get to see the Captain either. Seems to have happened here as well.
![]() Update: After some more tests, it seems to be apparent that Steam is distributing patch version v1.02 of Drakensang and not the latest path v1.1. That *really* sucks .

After calming down a bit... all this is not really Steam's fault.
They did their best to distribute the latest English version available. For some reason the devs of Drakensang did not want or could not bring up the resources to update the international version to the latest version. According to the (German) patch list: Drakensang - German Patch v1.1the patch added a new NPC (Questgiver), and several new items, weapons, armour he sells, and a side quest for him, plus code-free access to "The Mask of the Master" (CH+3), plus some loot optimizations. From what that page mentions the Gold version, pretty much distributed the latest patch v1.11 (small hotfix) plus the free Hires Texture Pack. The latter *is* distributed in the Steam version. (See my comment about Steam trying to do their best version-wise.) So at least we get the best "visual" version out there. I also read that there seems to be some cut-down in the voice acting in the English version of Drakensang River of Time. I.e. supposedly many dubbed dialogues go without any English dub. Since I am German, I'll thus get River of Time in German; the German Collectors Edition looks rather nice and affordable on Amazon.de. BTW, asked on the English dtp forum about the US/UK version of River of Time, and if it actually features v1.1. So far no reply. Last edited by AEon: 11-23-2011 at 11:42 PM. |

Alas, in about four months, Drakensang River of Time would have been 2 years old. So I thought, "neat maybe a Drakensang 3 will be out soon". But it turns out that the German devs, Radon Labs, had to file bankruptcy in May 2010. They were barely able to release the River of Time add-on. And "Drakensang 3" turned out to be some webbrowser-based MMO called Drakensang Online (developed for the company that bought them up). Have not looked into the latter, but from some of the comments this sure is not what fans of the first two games would appreciate. Very sad that talented teams should "go under". Reminds me of Sin Episodes and Ritual, great game but did not sell well enough... sigh.
Well I still have River of Time to enjoy, presently replaying the Demo... and I really love the design of the world. |

Sad to hear. I really liked their 3D engine, art style and how they managed to capture the spirit of The Dark Eye.
Apparently it's become very hard for German game developers to release anything bigger than casual games - unless they go for mainstream blockbusters and sell their souls to market biggies like EA. Anyway, for anyone interested, there's a new Dark Eye game coming out soon: http://www.satinavs-ketten.de/en/ It's being developed by point-and-click specialists Deadalic Entertainment. Can't wait for it! |
