Youtube vids/captioning
Just captioned the first of my GRID videos. Please watch this in HD and with captions turned on. Bear in mind that it looks choppy as it was recorded at 25 fps but plays on my system (2.8GHz Core 2 duo) at 60fps.
Let me know what you think of the caption timings. |

Bearing in mind I've never used them, and it appears some viewers hate them, captions seem ok, but small, and hard to see. Is there not an option to show them against a darkened background?
The title needs changing. Grid starting tutorial or something. Why do you record at 25 FPS? What if you added some situations showing what to expect as things progress? |

I record at 25 because here in PAL land, that's what TVs use...
The captions change size, depending on resolution. It's all controlled by YouTube, I think: I've not seen any way to change attributes myself. I could embed them in the video, of course, but then they couldn't be toggled. The original plan was to show every career race, and gradually improve the viewer's knowledge. Where to pass, tactics, which car to use etc. As this is the first race, only basic knowledge is needed. You just need to achieve one lap of the track. |

I'm in PAL land, but I record at 30 because it's half the game frame rate.

Good job Gorf. It looks ok and plays smoothly on my system. The caption timing is good.
Only thing is it does drag on a bit. You could edit out more and cut it down to the essentials. I get bored watching my own replays, much less someone else's. By the way, nice driving! Last edited by Tiger88: 01-20-2012 at 07:45 AM. |

Sorry for the delay responding. Had PC issues. Turned out to be a CPU cooler full of dust.
The videos don't take much editing: The most effort goes into re-syncing audio as I can't work out how to get it into the HDMI feed (I use a DVI to HDMI adapter for video, so the audio is static, and needs to be recorded separately). I build the captions in a subtitle-format text file, and import them into YouTube. Thanks for the feedback, Tiger88. I may just do a video of the best passing points on each track... |
