I got the 2nd update (the alleged fix) automatically from Valve tonight and decided to go with that instead of the older version from the link. TF2 loaded and connected to server, even started as the demo; then got this too after a few seconds and the entire Mac froze solid for a good 1/2 hour. What fun. Guess I'll try the older version fix now. Gosh I'm tired.

Heh, actually...

Steam works but when I try to play tf2 it just validates and stops at 100%. When I click cancel and try to start it up again same result.

Help plz

Hey folks havaing the same problem. I run steam and it crashes after it says ''connecting....." however I made a NEW test account and it connects fine, but my paid account will not start. See if this issue is the same for you. Make a new account and try and login, if it works then your steam client is fine. It might be an issue of syncing your paid steam account their server or such, and thus creates a crash. Now I'm only poking at this as a theory.

If it tries to update on launch, cancel the update before it finishes and try launching again.

The solution suggested by Steam Support in response to my ticket was updated. This time it worked (for me).

Please exit Steam and remove the Steam application from the location you installed it in (Applications by default) by dragging it to the Trash.

Also go to the folder Users/[username]/Library/Application Support/Steam

Note: If you are using Lion please do the following to enable your Library folder:

1. Open Terminal
2. Type chflags nohidden ~/Library
3. Close Terminal

Delete all of the files and folders in the /Steam folder except for /SteamApps.

Then, redownload Steam from http://cdn.store.steampowered.com/pu...ller/steam.dmg and reinstall the application.

Then, you will need to launch Steam.app from your Dock or Applications folder.

The critical step was to delete Steam.app and re-download from scratch. Possibly wiping out the Library contents wasn't required, but better safe than sorry eh?

Minor irritation was that Steam lost my categories and favourites, but apart from that All Was Golden.
