GTA 4 Crashes

I have no issues playing the game... for awhile at least then the game seems to lock up my whole PC making me reboot i was talking with a friend and he said Rockstar Games in general dont like AMD processors and there is a patch that helps if this is true where can i find this patch and how to impliment it

My PC is custom built with and AMD Phenom 2 hex core 3.3GHz, Radeon HD6850 1GB graphics and 8GB gaming ram
