Post Fix me, fix me Dm Only Server [EU + Alltalk]

Hey folks!

I created a DDD Dedicated Server, due to the lack of Servers which have a decent Ping currently (Such as the one from Slayer).
So i though to myself, why dont give it a shot at running your own?


Information About the Server:


Slots: 18
Maps: Only DM
Location: Germany
Ping: In General about 30-60 for EU Players
Internet Connection: 64.000 kbits
Online Times: Mostly 24/7

Machine that is running the Server:


CPU: AMD Phenom II X3 720 BE @ 3x 3,1 GHz
Mainboard: Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H
Memory: 2x 2 GB DDR-3 G.Skill @ 1333 MHz


Additional Information

Question: Why is my Ping so bad?
Answer: Maybe you are not near Germany, or the Server has Troubles.

Question: Do you want to Host it Forever?
Answer: I dont know it yet, its still a Testing Phase.


Changes so far:


21.2.2012

- Changed Server Slots to 18
- Changed Server Location to a Faster HDD of mine
- Changed Server MotD
- Changed sv_pounce_recharge from "5" to "0"
- Changed Forum Post form
- Added a bat file so if the Server Crashes, the Server will Restart automatically.

22.2.2012

- Added MetaMod:Source v.1.8.7V
- Added SourceMod v.1.4.1
- Added AFK Manager v.3.4.3
- Added Rock The Vote v.1.4.1


Planned to add/change:

- Classes Limit
- Custom Maps (Maybe)
- Any Ideas?
- Upgrade from 4 GB to 16 GB, just for the Server

Hi there,

I can answer some of these questions.

- You can initiate a map change after a certain team wins a set amount of rounds by setting the console variable "ddd_mp_winlimit". If you set that to 2 in your server.cfg the map should change when a team reaches two wins. You need to edit your maplist.txt in the root dinodday directory. This determines what maps are selected on a map change.

- There are a lot of great tutorials over at srcds.com to help you run your server.

- You can implement SourceMod yes. This supports lots and lots of plug-ins!

Thank you for Helping me out there!

- The Mapchange Story can be Closed.
- Found the bat for restarting the server when Crashed.

Last thing is SourceMods, i dont find Dino D-Day listed, so i guess i cant use Counter Strike Source Mods as Mani Admin Plugin

Don't sweat it, man. Your server's pretty good, considering I live in the States. Just don't get in the habit of kicking dudes for stuff without telling them to cut it out beforehand. You can edit the MotD, so you can establish rules there, if you want.

Anyway, if you want to set up class limits, I suggest you put the Desmatosuchus as well as Nigel at 2/3. A big amount of either one can make short work of most of their opposing classes. Maybe set the limit for Nigel higher, because he's basically necessary in obj_fortress.

Nice server. I like that you configured it the same way as SlayerNL (dm only, play to 75)
However, the server starts lagging horribly when many players are online. Maybe you should limit the player count to 16. 8v8 doesn't work perfectly but it is playable - seems to be the maximum here.
Also if you install some mods please think about an autokick for afk players after 3-5 minutes of idling. Thanks.

-1 for class limit. You can limit the compy since it's universally seen as a nuisance but other than that there should be no limits.

Hey again

I updated this Post a bit, due to the lately traffic of the Server i run.
Changed so far the Form of the Post, so its easier to gather the Information you need. I Changed as well a few things on the Server and added here a Changed so far and Planned to add/change Part.

I Will work harder if my Schuedle will let me!
