Killing Floor Unplayable
Bought my brother a copy of Killing Floor, but it's entirely unplayable and seems to be running between 5-10 FPS. The computer it ran on once played it perfectly, as it used to be my computer. The menu seems to be equally laggy, EXCEPT if the game is running in windowed mode; then the menu and in-game menu are fine, but the game itself is still unplayable.
PC specs: e4400 @ 2.8 GHz 2GB DDR2 800MHZ Corsair RAM ATi HD3870, updated drivers Sound Blaster X-Fi Windows XP Pro 32 bit, updated So far I've tried: -setting the sound to Safe Mode -changing the video renderer to D3D/DX9, but setting it to software simply crashes on startup -disabling the second monitor -reducing all graphics and resolution to the minimum -trying it in windowed mode instead And still nothing seems to work. Reducing the graphics and resolution actually appears to make no difference, whether at 640x480 or not it's still just as bad. I would make a thread on the official KF forum, but they appear to ban Hotmail accounts and I'm not willing to make a Gmail account just to post a thread. Thanks in advance. |

Have you tried other games on it since this started happening? If not, try some other games. Your graphics card may have died out on you. If it's not the graphics card, have you tried verifying the cache? I know that sounds like it wouldn't matter, but anything is worth trying.

This is the only game that has this issue, and verifying the cache didn't help either. Thanks for the suggestion though.

Try turning "reduce mouse lag" off and see if that helps.

No luck but thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to check the FPS while playing so I can give a more accurate reading.

If you're running W7 turn off the event log service in msconfig, it registers every single button press and basically screws up the game.
If that doesn't help make sure nothing else interferes with the game, like an antivirus scanning it every next second. |

Try disabling catalyst AI, or setting to advanced. Last edited by MrCrunk: 02-26-2012 at 12:12 PM. |

This is during registration. If you "click here" then it asks you to log in before you can Email the admin. So nothing I can do there, since I ONLY have a Hotmail account. |

Catalyst AI didn't make a difference.
Right, some more points: -The "Activity" percentage on my 3870 never goes above 10% while playing Killing Floor, even at max settings at native resolution. While playing CSS or MW2, this is around 40-50%. Something to do with this? -Playing KF in a window causes my desktop cursor to lag, and any other games experience the same "lag". As soon as KF is closed everything is fine again. This ONLY happens with KF that I can see. Last edited by hoodooti: 02-26-2012 at 12:32 PM. |

have you tried downgrading the graphics drivers to an older version?

Downgrading my drivers a single version fixed it; probably should've done that earlier but I was particularly adverse to it because it nulls support for a newer game.
