Give TF2 and maybe even Steam a restart, see if it fixes it. This happens all the time to me, I think it's the item server messing up.

What was the decal?

it'll be back.

you probably lost connection to the item server or something.

Check your backpack. When you hover over the item, does the 'restore' button appear active?

If so, your decal is not truly lost- you're just experiencing an extremely* common glitch.

*And I mean extremely. Decals are hardly worth it, given the amount of time they spend being invisible.

Dont worry, happened to me too. The item server/steam cloud is glitching up today.

The restore button does appear active.

Doesn't it usually ask something along the lines of "THIS WILL REMOVE YOUR DECAL FOREVER! ARE YOU SURE? Y/N?"
