Yes, you can. Moreover, gravity have great affect on your ship!
Also, you can fly onto star. Result is predictable.

Sweet! Always bummed out when I cant vaporize into the stars in space-sims

Also watch out for atmosphere effects. You might burn yourself

You can also enter caves in some big asteroids! Might find some goodies in there!
