What does the Sony and Nintendo systems use then? Since the xbox uses DirectX

The PS3 uses it's own verison, PGSL, which is similar to OpenGL

I don't know what the Wii uses, but I'm sure it's not DirectX either...

Money of course...consumers like the xbox. There was also, and this is the most important reason, a strategic decision to put Microsoft products in the living room. Their ideal product line covers desktop and portable computing, smartphones, Office and server software, and living room/home entertainment products. They need to be competitive in each area of computing.
