Games for Windows live
Am I screwed now? I was forced to create a free GFWL account just to play Dirt2 properly. In the process (it's damn annoying) I created a new e-mail so as not to get any xbox spam. I then wrote down my password (wrongly) and now cannnot get back in after getting logged out after nearly 2 months of playing. Attempts to recover my account are to no avail, and now my CD key is associated with the mail-account which I cannot get into. Bummer!
How long does it normally take hotmail to give you back your account? If not, do I have to " -unbuy " Dirt2 on steam and then buy it again? :-( |

... I am tempted to request a password reset once a day until someone at hotmail gives in. Or maybe not.

The password resets are not unblocking them?

You can't unbuy a game. You are going to have to wait on those fine folks from India to help you.
I never fool with Hotmail. I know what they say when you make an account but I use Yahoo for my Live account and never had any issues with MS over it. Then again I made my account the first year the 360 came out and may be under some kind of grandfather clause. |

Also, in the mean while, you can create an offline GFWL account. and play the game. That is, unless you wanted to play multiplayer.

Do you have to make a GFWL account too when you play a GFWL-game offline only?
I recenly got GTA4 and it has GFWL too. I don't even want to play the game if it means i login to gfwl every time and have it running all the time. I don't know maybe i'm overreacting. |

The problem here is Hotmail, not GFWL. Excluding the fact that GFWL is a problem unto itself.
OP: Don't clog their system with lost password requests, that'll just activate their anti-phishing system and lock the account until they can verify you. Be patient and keep checking your real e-mail account for the password reset email. Remember to check your spam folder too. You should be able to play the single player portions of the game without logging in, though you probably won't be allowed to access your save file from when you logged in. Good luck. |

Nope, it's a PEBKAC (Problem exists between keyboard and chair).
When creating an e-mail address, it's a good idea to pay attention to what you are doing. Also, if you are going to create a password, make sure you can remember what it is. Now when you signed up for the hotmail account, didn't you put in an alternate e-mail address to get your account back with? (Or were you afraid that hotmail might send you Microsoft spam?) |

I've lost my password to my GFWL account before. As long as you have access to the e-mail acccount it's asscoiated with, you can request to change your password.
Secondly, Steam games are not "tied" to your GFWL account. Yes you do input your serial in order to play, but I have played the same games over 2 accounts when I could not access a previous account. Unless they changed this policy very recently, I was able to make a new account to play my GFWL titles that are actually tied to Steam. |

Go to Xbox.com and find the support page, Xbox live customer support is really good. You can talk to a member of the support team in real time.
