New Portal 2 Starting bug?

I just got Portal 2 over the holiday season and it worked fine, until last night. Now when I start the game it goes normally to the Main Screen. From there the usual options of Single Player, Multiplayer, Options, etc..have been replaced with No Steam and Quit. I've never seen this before.

I re-verified my cache, it says I'm missing a file, Steam dl's the file, but I keep getting the same Main Screen options and re-verifying cache, only recursively tells me I'm missing a file.

Any suggestions what I should do?

You could try to disable XD-Bit/EDB (Intel) or NX-Bit/EVP (AMD) in BIOS. I think just having it on the expansion drive could make things funny. Have steam games worked for you when put on the expansion drive?

Did you uninstall it using "Programs and Features?" Try uninstalling it completely and re-download.

still doesnt work
I think you just need to download it normally, even though your connection is slow. Maybe take it to a friend's house and download it there.

Have you guys downloaded any games or DLCs between the previous startup for Portal and the time you're having the issue?

I just had it and am currently reinstalling, but a few nights ago I had downloaded the creator tools just to mess with it. I'm thinking that program is what made my game crash - its the only thing that was installed between the two times I launched Portal 2 aside from Dungeon Defenders. Something between its settings and the game's didn't like each other (running 64 bit Win 7) I think...

I found a fix for the black screen sound loop problem if that is when you are having. I posted it here: http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=2485064

I am currently crashing when trying to start single-player or inviting someone in co-op. Is anyone else having a similar issue?

My Portal 2 will either stop responding or simply crash to desktop with no warning. I've tried every solution I can find. Anyone have a fix?

Works now. Avast anti-virus is a complete pain in the butt, apparently.

My game crashes when I drop the very first cube on the red platform. It starts fine, loads fine but I just cannot get past that part, it doesnt give any messages just back to desktop.
