EQ2 vs WoW

I am an old wow player and was looking for the best free to play mmo out there.

EQ2 looks like it is but I am currently downloading it.

What do you think are the differences between the two games?

Any other F2P games out there that don't require you to spend huge amounts of money (i love LoL!).

I played the original EQ for years. Got bored, quit, then started WOW. Then quit WOW. My honest opinion is, "I prefer games that end."

I've played EQ2 for 5 years and Wow for a little over a year. After a year of wow i just couldnt stomach it anymore. Seemed like too many children playing it. EQ2 i find to be a more adult community and less drama. Most of my guildmates are adults, some of them even retired. The F2P version of EQ2 i'm not really that fond of. Its very limiting compared to other f2p mmos. However if you dont want to pay for the 15/month subscription you can wait for a double or triple station cash event and buy station cash. Then you can use the station cash to buy the subscription. Effectivly cutting the subscription price in half. And if you do like the game you can just buy a year subscription and save quite a bit. I know this is what i am planning to do when the next event comes around.

What i like about EQ2 comparative to WoW, is EQ2 is more expansive. Theres alot more to do in it than WoW. Tons of quests, trade skill/harvesting system is better imo, guild halls, player housing, Alternate advencement system, lots of classes and races to choose from. Can even make your own dungeons now for people to run through. Though i havent tried our that asspect yet.

It still has a new things to fix that they are currently working on. Like making the dungeon finder more useful.

Overall though if you havent tried EQ2 yet i would certainly give it a shot. I do believe EQ2 does things better over WoW.

I don't think there is a true free mmo. Couldn't be. Someone has to get paid. Question is, what game sytles do you do? Age of Empires Online is a free online RTS game. Team Fortress 2 is a free online shooter. I think AION is a free Korean MMO up to a certain point. There is Kongregate.com for dinky arcade games. YouTube has short movies now. Guild Wars is free after you buy the game. Is 'free' the only goal? WoW is moving to pokemon battles, cute pandas, kids, card games, scrapbooking, girl stuff. It's not over if you are in to all that kind'a stuff, but for the rest of us....

Lotro

Lord of the Rings Online has probably the most robust free content out there and its really well done to boot. You also earn turbine points while you play so you can use these to buy things in the store.

On another note, is $15 a month really so much to spend on the amount of content you get from an MMO? I never understood complaints over MMO pricing. Three McDonalds value meals cost more. Mowing someone's lawn will net you more. If your a gamer and you own a computer with internet I refuse to believe that there is no way you can come up with $15 in 30 days and not get the most entertainment value bang for your buck. I think MMO's are the most cost effective form of entertainment around. My two cents.

Yes 15 dollars is a lot of money...

I dont mind spending $40 on a great game or $60 for the next installment of one of my favorite games of all time Diablo 3 & Guild Wars 2, but the 15.00 a month to have acess to a game for a limited time I have always hated.

I played WoW vanilla and just got sick of the never ending grind when I just wanted to PvP, and after shelling out over 100 dollars to blizzard for WoW, I cant even play it anymore!

Planetside was my favorite MMO ever!

I am so happy there making Planetside 2... I would have paid for the subscription but there jumping to the F2P model...

I like LoL's F2P model (because I own almost every champ without paying a penny) but I loathe Tribes Ascend's and Battlefield Heroes F2P model because they are Pay to Win.

But if I ever feel like it I can always start another character in Diablo 2 or Guild Wars.

I love WoW, I always saw it more interesting and cartoonish. EQ2 used to be good, but then it went F2P.

Yeah but isn't LOTRO pretty much exactly like Wow anyway? It was when I played it...

Aion has the best f2p model at the moment, I recommend you check it out.

as for EQ2 i'm downloading it right now and hope it isn't as bad restrictive as alot of people say it is, DCU online has sony's name and I find it to be well worth playing and the f2p model on there isn't bad.

ps. if you can afford the monthly subs then I must also recommend FF14, the game is amazing and is gonna get a hell of alot better when they update it to 2.0, best MMO I have ever played.
