Silent Hunter 3 Iceburgs and Sea Ice not found in January?

Im playing a career starting on January 1 1940 using the SH3 command mod but Im off the coast of Greenland and I dont see any Ice Burgs or Ice. Where are Ice Burgs typically in SH3 found? I have used a mod called Ice Age or something to make them look better visually but I dont see any Ice above Iceland in January.. strange? All it does is rains up there a lot. I remember playing SH3 years ago and seeing Ice Burgs and Sea Ice but where I can't remember?
