Item sets
If you came expecting a rant about the Mann-Conomy and Australian Christmas set bonuses, you're in the wrong thread.
Recent sets, starting with the Uber Update and onward have all been 100% cosmetic. As per usual, each set was comprised of items that were intended to work together visually and were contributed by the same person (or group of people). However, the most recent set is from 2 unassociated contributors who had no intentions of creating a themed outfit. This is where things get interesting, as Valve can retroactively enforce this sort of thing for other items that mesh well together, visually. Regardless if the items are created by the same people or not, there can be item sets that merely boast in the loadout descriptions "Hey world! I'm wearing my matching socks and underpants today!" Some examples:
As you can tell, they could apply this sort of thing to past promotions (preferably ones with items that can still be obtained). I threw a few unlikely ones into the list of examples for the sake of example. What do you guys think? |

If they add more retroactive joke sets I'd like them to be purely cosmetic.
Things like the swashbuckler's swag look nice, but then you have silly people using peglegs, Scottish resistance, and Rum together. |

Nine-Pipe Problem
Together these items form the Eliminating the Impossible set. Wearing both of them together will grant the wearer 88% faster mystery solving*. The set itself is not visible until all of the items in the set are worn together. *Purely satirical attributes that do nothing for gameplay. |

I'd like a few if they had some kind of minor cosmetic effect.
Also for a few of those, adding them as sets would make the items easier to craft. Hero's Tail would suddenly have a recipe. |

I'm saying take weapons out of the equation entirely and make them hat/misc based only. I'd prefer people didn't use silly loadouts just because they complete a set. |

People have been using silly loadouts since the dawn of item sets, just because of the set bonuses. Once set bonuses were no longer added, people were less inclined to use all of the items together unless they wanted to go to a costume party or something. The purpose of the sets is to show that you have a matching outfit, if people allow their decision to be fashionable to get in the way of their weapon loadout, they have themselves to blame. It's all a conscious decision by the player. |

As...eh, amusing, as this would be, I think there's a lot more important things Valve should tend to.

It's a small novelty that should not hold a high priority. If the set attribute to be hidden wasn't a hard-coded attribute, I would submit a schema diff myself so it would save them the time of even needing to do that so they can instead focus on bugs and game improvements. But I digress. |

Second, if we are counting set that the community are using, like Demopan, Tommy Gruvich and Dr. Enforcicle, you don't need to do that, this thread has that job. And now, third, isn't this a set? Boxing Heavy KGB/GRU/Apoco-Fists + Pugilist's Protector |

Wasn't this part of the wiki April Fools' joke? Problem with this one, hilarious as it is, is the three promo items, two of which also being untradeable.
