If you want to play only plain Medieval II, you don't need to have Kingdoms installed.

What he asked is do you ONLY need to install the expansion (without installing core first) to be able to play both core and expansion? or do you need to install the core game FIRST and THEN install the expansion? I would like to know the answer to his question as well. Thanks |

Oh, my bad.
It seems that the base game is required, at least for the boxed versions and the D2D downloads. I'd guess it's the same for Steam. I think I recall someone stating that on Steam, M2TW will automatically be installed if you install Kingdoms. However, there seems to be an occasional problem with the CD keys not being properly registered when you install Kingdoms directly. This may prevent multiplayer from working. So if you want to use multiplayer, best install M2TW manually and then Kingdoms. |

Just installed M2TW from DVD backup, and downloaded addon: game with expansion is 11.7 GB, core game is 7.6 GB, expansion's download size was about 3.4 GB (compressed, on disk it's ~4.1 GB).

I would love to install Kingdoms. Although it's not happening anytime soon at 12gb. If it turns out it's only 3.4gb then I'm all for it

you mean 12gb I assume? It is actually that big, and even bigger if you decide to unpack the files. Kingdoms is 4 pretty long campaigns on 4 new maps so it will need a lot more space.

I wanted to update this post with a real answer.
I only have Kingdoms installed (12GB) and I uninstalled Total War II and it works. I can launch both the vanilla version and the Kingdoms version off of the Kingdoms install. So save your hard drive space and download and install only the Kingdoms version. I believe it has something to do with the fact that it's on Steam and not the disc version. I'd rather use 12GB instead of 20GB anyways, haha. Problem Solved. (Afterthought: I'm assuming you still have to purchase TW2/TW2 Gold though anyhow) Last edited by Dalfurion: 07-09-2012 at 01:09 PM. It's weird, I remember I installed 20gb like 5 months ago and it included Medieval 2, but now when I installed it, it was just almost 10gb, and even that included Medieval 2, I just had to start installing Medieval 2 and downloaded like a 334byte file, weird but it works.
