Arkham City Client refuses to start

I just downloaded and opened Arkham City today, and after a successful first load, the client will no longer promptly start when triggered either through Steam or the desktop icon (which, of course, requires a Steam login).

I activated the game both through the prompt given and via Games For Windows - as well as updated *everything* necessary to finally give me access. The only thing anomalous I did afterwards was defrag my storage disk.

And yes, I'm running all the most current drivers, and "tried a reboot."

AND I just performed a cache integrity check that passed, after seeing it suggested in a few other threads.

Selecting the "properties" option won't even bring THAT up.

I'm having the EXACT same problem.

Successful first launch, and no successful launches after that.

I think I found the solution. Or, at least one that let me play again.

Enter Steam, and *properly* exit it. Then restart Steam and attempt to restart AC.

It seems the reason I had the screw-up is because I didn't let the Steam "Cloud" finish doing whatever the hell it is it does when I last exited Steam.

Restarted steam like 8x. Still not working for me. Verified game cache too.

Yeah, I played it for a few hours and now on my second time starting it up again I'm only getting a black screen come up. I'm hearing all the sound (e.g. of the opening splash screens), just not getting any of the video.

Can anyone help? I only went for the offline Games for Windows Live rather than the online option - that shouldn't be affecting it should it?

Not sure I know what you mean by "Arkham City Client". Do you mean the game itself?

How about running it manually? Steam\steamapps\common\Batman2\RunLauncher.bat

I had trouble with all 3 of my GFWL games. What oddly enough seems to have cleared them up is updating the CPU drivers. Try that and see if it clears things up for you guys.
