Beginner Q about killing?

Just starting out, been playing a good hour and some and got the bind song. While towing a rock, I accidentally whacked the big fish that lives south of your home so now I'm curious...

Is there going to be consequences for killing random passive creatures like it that aren't trying to kill you?

Contrariwise, is there any benefit? Do these unique(?) creatures drop anything special if killed? If there's nothing special that can be gained, I'd rather just live and let live


Also, what good does binding shells off of creatures do? I tried with a turtle and a slug and they just got faster.

You can only kill them without the shell. Just keep exploring.
