The new update broke my psychonauts.
I fixed it by downloading this though. http://connect.creativelabs.com/open...ds/oalinst.zip Found it on some polish site after googling the problem. |

Please roll this back ASAP. I was just about to take on what I assume is the final boss for the first time, but I can't even load the game up now. I checked but unfortunately I don't have this .ini file either.

*Edit: you might want to download the version here: http://forums.creative.com/showthread.php?t=548634 - 2.1.0.0 vs the 2.0.7.0 provided at the normal Creative page. Having done that, Psychonauts is running fine for me. Last edited by Belgium: 03-26-2012 at 07:12 AM. |

This OpenAL32.dll version 6.14.357.24 (from 2.0.7.0) UPDATE did not break the game for me, maybe because I installed that same version (for whole windows system and manually that .dll file to Psychonaut's correct folder) 2 years ago. Actually that update did NOTHING concerning that sound stutter that often came after playing psychonauts over 30 mins.
Correct solution was to edit AudioSetting.ini and change the default values to these: PacketSize=500 MusicPacketSize=500 Sound stutter vanished completely after this tune. That information was on: \Steam\steamapps\common\psychonauts\Documents\Read mes\ReadMe.txt So.. It seems that this openal32.dll(2.0.7.0) is perhaps not so compatible with all soundcards than the older version (I have real soundcard, SB X-Fi), OR installing only to psychonauts steam folder conflicts with the older driver that is on windows folder.(older version is on windows system PATH) That 2.1.0.0 mentioned on last page, I dont think it's real? Can't find it on creative website, and many links that mention it are suspicious. Well.. can't be sure, atleast that driver is not common. On creative page is same version that updated to Psychonauts folder. This is system wide installation (on windows folder too), and could help perhaps. that info on the connect page is never updated ever. openal 2.1 can be found in the current version of creative's sound card drivers. If you upzip the installer you'll find it. they're also available in blue ripple sound's rapture3d drivers as well.

No problems with the update here.
No issue with VSync for me. In fact VSync should always work quite well unless you play a resource-heavy game that where the FPS drop below your max FPS, because in this case with VSync half of your max FPS will then be your upper bound (e.g. you get either 60 FPS if you can reach it or only 30 if you don't, same if your display FPS is higher). |

By the way, after this last update, I changed HardwareAccel back to true again and the game is working fine again!
I think there was nothing to be fixed in the first place... |
