When this game was released the Steam Inventory doensn't exist, so nobody have a Pre-Order Edition in his hands (Only the devs and Valve of course).

But gifting did exist. Un-redeemed gifts were moved into inventory when that feature was introduced. I should know, I've got pages upon pages of them.

(To OP: I don't have the Ball, though. Sorry)
