Best puzzle game I ever played. Don't buy it if you want a casual game, though, SpaceChem will require a lot of effort/dedication if you want to become good at it.

75 hours invested

75 hours invested, and haven't finished yet. Too busy optimizing my designs. Beware! This game is terribly addicting, and fiendishly clever. Must buy at this price.

I was going to hold off on a purchase of this but this thread convinced me to give it a try.

I guess it's less of a puzzle game, than a "problem solving" game.
The game gives you a lot of freedom to approach each problem and to come up with your own solution to it.
If you enjoy solving difficult problems with logic and tinkering, this is the game for you.

DLC introduces a new gameplay element and a few medium challenges. Though they are not among my favorite assignments.

I wouldn't have bought the DLC myself (got it through a steam event), but I guess it's worth the price as the main game is hugely underpriced imo.

I can attest that the game is worth it as well.

As to the question of the DLC, it was a fun DLC, don't get me wrong, but it didn't really feel like it's worth $2 to me. If you want extra puzzles beyond the main game, go play the Research Net puzzles, which there are tons of. get the DLC when it is also on sale, which will likely happen on the next major Steam sale (Likely the Summer Sale, but you never know what Steam might do).

All the DLC adds is another world to complete that has its own unique game-play mechanic.

Game of the year 2011. Puzzle game of the forever. A steal at this price; if you think your brain needs a stretch, pick it up. If you don't think your brain needs a stretch, BZZZT, wrong answer.

This game single-handedly taught me the art of logistics.

This was one of the most unique puzzle games I have played. Worth the $3 they want for it.

I sometimes like to call SpaceChem a 'celebration of human ingenuity'. It's amazing how many different strategies people come up with for these missions.

Placing this under 'casual' is one of life's cruel little jokes. This game is hard, and takes a while to get used to, but when you do, it becomes amazing and you'll feel like the smartest person in the world when you beat a mission ... right up to the point you load the next mission (or even at the results screen, where you can see how others fare), which makes you feel like an idjit again :P

This review sums it up pretty well:

So yes, it's worth it. Especially at this price.

Also, there are some good hints in the in-game tutorials, on reddit, spacechem.net, youtube, and this forum. It'd be unwise to ignore them.

I have never seen rockpapershotgun.com before. Great reviews! I get so tired of reviews that are one paragraph long that say nothing more than what the back of the box would say.

Here is my review and I am working on posting “my” best solutions as I find time. Enjoy.
