ipod database support

I'm taking this idea to a few of the music games out there for one reason. I dual boot and don't have a shared partition for all my music, but i did have an mp3 player that worked as an external hard drive. Untill about 6 monthes ago.

My 5.5 generation Ipod with Rockbox, a custome firmware installed was stolen. It worked just like an external drive i.e the music was organized in a logical way (album artist/album/track - title.mp3) I've tried getting another one used, but it only worked until the warranty expired. I would just get a new 6th generations, but those can't have custom firmware installed.

I've seen media players that are able to play music off of ipods. They must be using a database file from off the hardware. I think it would be great if i could browse through music on my ipod, in game as i would on a media player

Hmm, I need to partner with some versatile media player, preferably within same weight category as my software, so that there is mutual work on keeping the compatibility up and mutually notable profit increase. What would you recommend?
