Post Can't post in the Trading forums?

As per the announcement originally posted on March 27th:
Quote:
Upcoming Changes to the Trading Forums [NOW LIVE]

In order to participate in the trading forum, all trading users are required to have their Steam account and their forum account linked.

Users who are trade banned will have their access to the trading forum revoked until the ban expires.

If you have not already done so and wish to continue participating in the trading forums, please follow the URL below to link your accounts...

EDIT:

These changes are live as of 1500 PDT April 12th, 2012.

The linking is done via OpenID. The only information stored is your 64bit Steam ID. This information cannot be used in any way to obtain access to your Steam account.

Users have the right to know who they are trading with.

Fortunately, the trading forums here are not the "end all be all" of places to conduct trades. Here is a list of some of the other places available for you to use:

Games and Coupon trading sites
Team Fortress 2 Items trading sites
Other
Significant Steam GroupsHere are some alternative sites to use to advertise trades. Feel free to post or PM me any additions to the list. Also feel free to discuss these or other trading sites in this thread. Any trade posts made within this thread will be removed.

Can I simply create a dummy steam account?
I don't want my forum and steam account publicly linked. I already get enough random invites from people who don't even want anything from me.

Yeah, I'm in the same boat. I get enough annoying adds every week, because my backpack and inventory are public, no need to advertize it even more.

If you link your account, they'd know it anyway. It's public.

Set you profile to private like I did so people like Modiga-Disabled can't bother you.

The only thing that is stored on the forums when linking your account is the 64bit SteamID. It's public anyway and can't be used to gain access to your account. It's basically just a few random numbers.

However, if you link your accounts, it couldn't hurt to use different mail addresses and passwords both for your forum- and your Steam-account, just to be on the perfectly safe side.

Your Steam account login credentials aren't stored anywhere on the forum. As far as I know, the only thing that is stored is your 64-bit Steam ID (effectively, it's no different than storing the URL to your account's profile page). So if the forum was compromised, your Steam account won't be at any real additional risk. The most that could be gained is the URL to your profile page, which would be public anyway.
