Majesty 2 Crash on Startup

Currently Majesty 2 is crashing as soon as it starts. Usually I get the splash screen for a moment, then the screen updates to show windows, but no new screen updates. I have to kill majesty.exe in the task manager.

I haven't played in a while, but have played on this computer before.

I have tried verifying the game cache.
I have deleted my local content and redownloaded.
I tried activating Majesty2.exe directly (and with various adjustments to compatibility mode and administrator rights).

Anyone have advice?

Make sure resource.mod folder is empty.
Steam\SteamApps\common\majesty 2 collection\resource.mod\

Thanks, but it didn't work.

I don't have the collection, just Majesty 2. Don't know if that makes a difference.
