We'll be updating some of the Steam servers today around 16:00 PDT. Chat, game lobbies, and the community web site will be affected for the duration of the maintenance. Some content downloads may be briefly interrupted. Game play should generally not be interrupted but may be briefly impacted for some multi-player titles. There is a little bit of database maintenance, so downtime should be pretty short.

We completed maintenance ~4:30pm. Thanks all!

We're going to do another quick maintenance of the Steam servers again today to address some connectivity issues that some users are experiencing. There is no database work, so we should be up quickly. Work is estimated to start shortly and conclude by 16:00 PDT.

Servers are back up.

We have been performing maintenance at one of our datacenters today which has resulted in intermittent service interruptions for Steam and some of our websites (ex/ these forums).

The maintenance appears to be complete and we apologize for any inconvenience that this may have caused.

I'm investigating an unplanned event that occurred within the last hour; I'll post more details shortly.

Update: An unplanned server event occurred at ~07:45 PDT (GMT-0700). The issue affected many more servers at ~08:10 PDT and was resolved by ~08:20 PDT. I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.

We'll be updating some of the Steam servers on Wednesday, April 18th, 2012 at approximately 08:00 PDT (GMT-0700).

There is some database maintenance scheduled which will result in approximately 10 minutes of service interruption. Chat, game lobbies, and the community web site will be affected for the duration of the maintenance. Some content downloads may be briefly interrupted. Game play should generally not be interrupted but may be impacted for some multi-player titles.

Update 9:00AM: The maintenance started at ~8:40 PDT and is taking longer than anticipated.

Update: Steam was back up at ~9:10 PDT, but some item services were not restored until ~10:15 PDT.

There is a known Steam login issue affecting some users in Germany. We are actively working on this issue and will post more information as soon as possible.

Update 4/19/2012 12:00 PDT (GMT-0700): This issue has been resolved. We had a configuration issue which was affecting certain clients when connecting from Germany. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Update 4/19/2012 13:15 PDT (GMT-0700): An additional configuration issue has been identified. We are working to correct this now.

Update 4/19/2012 13:25 PDT (GMT-0700): This additional configuration issue has now been resolved. We again apologize for the inconvenience.

Sheduled Steam Server maintainence is scheduled for Wednesday, may 16th around 3pm PST. Downtime should be under 10 minutes, but may run a little longer as OS updates will also be applied.

Approximately 1 hour after the scheduled maintenance tomorrow, we will be making a few network configuration changes at one of our data centers. These changes could briefly affect the community web site as well as http://store.steampowered.com/

At 2PM Pacific Time, we will be shutting off one of our provider links. This will cause traffic to re-route via our other provider links. When this happens, you may experience hitching or timeouts for a minute or so while the traffic shifts to the other links.

We ended up starting the prop a little bit late -- closer to 1630 or 1645. After pushing out code, we discovered a configuration problem that affected a subset of servers. The downtime recovery has been delayed by this issue. While some users can't log in, some can. We're working to resolve the issue and should have things back to normal soon.

After pushing out code, we discovered a configuration problem that affected a subset of servers. The downtime recovery has been delayed by this issue. While some users can't log in, some can. We're working to resolve the issue and should have things back to normal soon.
