will cs 1.6 mod work with half life 1 steam version?

Assuming the mod isn't a steam mod, it might work, but maybe not completely as it should. I've once tried to play non-steam m ods for HL1 on steam, and it did work, but i had the normal HL1 mainmenu instead of the mods mainmenu. I think it would be better to buy CS on steam, it isn't expensive and it works as it should.

I think it would work but you won't be able to play against anyone (use are using the Steam CS 1.6)

but why buy cs 1.6 when it's a free mod and you've all ready have half life 1?

There is no 1.6 mod. 1.6 is the full Steam release, so downloading 1.6 on websites other than through the Steam client would be piracy.

1.5 is the last mod version of Counter-Strike. It can still be downloaded from here, but since the WON network no long exists you can't really play it, unless you use the fan made version called STEAM.
