What's with the twitter thing?

Do I need twitter to enjoy this? I mean, I have no clue what it means by using "Twitter to co-operate with friends". Does that mean that Twitter does the same crappy thing as Gamespy, and forces you to have an account with them to do some form of multiplayer?

Or is all of it just that you can post tweets of what people say, to hint to others where you are, and then your friends can comment on you or something about what to do from there?

Honestly, one of my main reasons on holding off on this, is that honestly... I don't like twitter. I can see it's use, don't get me wrong. I just can't see any reason for MY use of it. And while this game looks good (I f***ing LOVE Patapon! Music-based games, wewt!), I would really rather not get it, if half of the experience is mashed into Twitter. I really do not care, nor wish to make an account with twitter, for the sole purpose of enjoying this game.

Don't bother to, AFAICT it adds precisely nothing to the game. I tweeted a bunch of things, saw no effect, read it has no benefit, and went back and culled my tweets.

Music based interaction in this game is pretty subtle.

Long story short, if you're curious about the game, get it, don't let the twitter "integration" hold you back.

Why THANK you my good sir! This has been especially helpful to my purchase! I thank you very much for your quick assistance, and I wish you a wonderful day! In-Oh!

I am sorry to say, but I may require your assistance a little more. Not much, but I have one more question before I shovel off to grab this game or not!

The gameplay itself... I see that it has something to do with moon phases, a sort of 'punch-out' style battle system, and a point and click way of navigation...

Is this game fully linear? Or are there possibly little side-quests I can do at least? I would love to honestly just take some time to wander around, enjoy the music, and look at the pretty pictures. Sure, I could do that WHILE in a level of sorts, but I like the OPTION of being able to just take a stroll through all the areas.

I doubt I can be the only one, who say... Right before a final boss fight, will just... Take this time, to go back to all the realms I have saved, or at least visited, and look at them. To take in the sights, the sounds, and to really just drink it all in, before I go fight the final boss of a game. I call it "The Swell" of a game, because that's always leading to the great climax at the end of a story.

Tl;dr,

Can I go back to previous areas during the story, and are there side-quests? ...Also, is the battle system actually fun? I didn't see much, and I'm trying not to spoil it TOO much for myself. But I gotta know that at least.

Well, I can tell you that at least for a few chapters of the game you can't return to one area in particular. Who knows if you can later, I'm only 60% through the game right now.

Side quests? Hm, well I guess there are a few small ones, but nothing really major. I've only found 2 so far.

Battle system being fun is entirely subjective. I'll say that it makes sense and it gives you good cues so you know what you need to do.

In terms of linearity, well, it is a 2D game so yes, its entirely linear :P However, there are a few "stages" and an assortment objects to interact with so it hasn't gotten stale for me yet at least. Solving the puzzles requires lots of trekking about, so you'll constantly be exploring and seeing the realm the game takes place in.

Ah, well alrighty then. o.o I don't suppose anyone here HAS beaten it then, and is able to speak of it, yes?

I only ask cause if the game is linear, a ton of little side-quests can offer me quite a bit of replay value of course. But if that's not the case, then at least going back to previous areas would have been nice. But if neither's the case, then I'm not sure. I mean, I'm sure the game is 5 bucks worth it at least (Which confuses me why steam charges $6, and INTENDS to charge $8 soon. <_< The iOS only charges you $5 for it.), I think this is a case where I may wait for a steam deal. Sure, most people would say it's price is cheap right now, but when you are on tight cash, this tends to happen more. ^^;

Nonetheless, I -do- intend to get it. But I think I'll wait until they are at LEAST only charging as much as the darn iPad thing charges you. Then we'll see.

You get the full Original Soundtrack with this release, hence the increased price. Its worth it for the soundtrack alone, in my opinion.

Yeah, the moon phases are really important. There are two ways to get around waiting for moon phases though- one is cheating and setting your system time. (you'll get an achievement for cheating too, though there's another achievement that you'll only get if you don't cheat) The other is an in-game thing, you'll know it when you see it. I don't want to spoil it.

There aren't really sidequests. There are a couple of achievements you can go for, and a couple optional things in-game. (like the moon-phase related item I mentioned above) But no sidequests.

You can do that for the most part, but depending on where you are in the game there is a place or two you won't be able to go.

You'll kind of sort of get a chance to do that before the end- you should be able to easily tell when to stop proceeding so that you can look around.

I really liked the battle system. Some of the battles took me multiple retries, just to learn patterns and things. Overall I thought it was a really fun way to do combat.

I don't know why you hate twitter. I am using it from past two years and I still love it.

Thank you for this topic, Codo. I thought I was alone with the personal beef I have with this game. Game companies that incorporate social media outlets in their products always irk me. In this case it steps on my suspense of disbelief.

Do I honestly need to be encouraged to twitter to people that I took my first babysteps in a videogame? For all the things this game does right about trying to be a unique experience, it completely missed the boat on this one by adding twitter.

Fortunately, it is 100% possible to completely ignore the twitter integration and just enjoy the marvelous experience.

If you don't want to share your experience, progression, a quote you liked, a joke you thought was funny... don't use twitter.

The social component twitter provides was a key component to the core design of the game - the ability to take a solo experience and turn it into a collective one via the in-game text.

Anywho, we totally understand that some people are into the twitter thing, and that's cool.

Man! o_o I made this topic a while ago, but just now, when checking my User CP thingy, I saw this line, and someone thanked me, assumed I hated twitter, was defended by another person, and subsequently got to see someone admit their BURNING FURY AND HATRED for Punch-Out style combat! o 3o

All in all though, once again, I find it neat that they ADDED it. I just don't like to use it. xD But I -do- think it is novel, that you can actually have a 'group experiance' via the twitter outlet, as it IS kind of neat. Not my style of thing, and I -do- hope it doesn't become a trend (Only because people would get kinda obnoxious about it), but all in all, I think it's rather neat. So long as they don't FORCE things like that on ya, I think it is a great idea. ^_^

Now let's work on getting Infinity Blade 1+2 on the PC. <_<
