Bug or new rules? Everything lost when dead

Hi.

I played about 100 hours Terraria, then I quit for a while, now I am back again. I have notice than some things has changed, new items, new rules... but there is something that really anyones me and I believe that is a bug because I refuse to believe that this is part of the game.

Before, when my character dies, all his inventory fell on the place, then I needed to go back there to recover all my stuff... Fair enough. Now, when my character dies, all my inventory disappear. It happen to me twice, so I though that maybe my character was corrupt or doomed, so I started playing with a new character in a new world... But the very same thing happen again!

This is really annoying and I wonder if someone knows what is this and if there is a solution at all.
