My thoughts from a non-biased view?

KoA seems to have action-RPG (like Diablo) based combat skills/tree/combat in a story based (voice-acted) open world, which is more linear than Skyrim.

What does that all mean? The combat in KoA is more fun and action packed because it's based on an action-RPG system like Diablo (and we all know combat is fun in these games).

While I don't know how good the story is going to be, the game does have a story along with side stories which are all voice-acted.

The open world concept is there, but in a more linear aspect compared to a "sandbox" game like Skyrim. In fact, the map in KoA reminds me of action-RPGs like Diablo, especially since enemies respawn (I don't really like this as I didn't want to treat this game as a single-player grind).

So far, I find if you want to play something that's truly open where you can shape the world around you, and do anything you want in any order, and venture into any direction, then Skyrim is the clear winner.

If you want action-RPG based combat, character development, and a more linear gameplay storyline (more than Skyrim) than KoA is the winner.
A fair judgement, but in all honesty, I don't think you would want to grind the same mobs you killed before because there's just too much to explore on the game. As much as I want to return to a dungeon to grind mobs because I just love dungeons, I know for sure that there will be better content. I doubt the game's a grind-fest, so far I have not been under that impression.

Played it for about 20h but eventually it became a bit boring. Quests are not interesting enough and the dungeons all look alike (which is again a flaw of skyrim). Combat is of course very fun but in the end not enough to keep me playing. Im sure though that there are a lot of people who really like this game. Its fun but i guess its just not my kind of game.

I agree with OP. This game is what Skyrim isn't. I felt like playing in a living, breathing world, as opposed to Skyrim, where I always had this awareness of being on a map, in a virtual world, surrounded by NPCs and mobs I don't care about.

The setting and the visuals remind me of Everquest II, and that's a good thing.

The combat is fun but the lack of jumping, the camera and generic world kill it

Reckoning is a great games but Skyrim is infinitely better

Wow. I was going to make the same exact post.

Amalur is a really good game, but Skyrim is an AMAZING game.

I felt the opposite.

Skyrim felt far more alive than KoA, at least to me. There was real creativity in it's world. KoA seemed like a knock-off of any generic fantasy universe set within a Fable/WoW genetic hybrid for SP.

KoA seemed like marketing run amock. About as bland as bland can get.

KoA is a very good game with fun well developed combat, that said, Skyrim is in a completely different league.

KoA's combat and story is way better than Skyrim. TeSV's exploration however is far superior.

Both are pretty fun action RPGs.

I play Skyrim and KOA, and enjoy them both. However, I wouldn't compare them to one another, as they are very different games. The only thing in common is they have hundreds of hours of play time, and they are both tons of fun. My main complaint in KOA is that it is too easy to hit your level 40 cap before the endgame, making the final hours a bit of a grind. Also, at that point you have all the best weapons and armour, so there's no real incentive to explore any more. The saving grace here is that you can completely respec your character at any time as long as you have the gold. I ended up playing as an Archmage, and let me tell you, that Meteor spell is a game breaker. My favourite is still Skyrim though, but KOA is a close second.

i have to agree. well first of all, both are great game !

at this moment, im bored with skyrim (the battle), hoping a battle changing mod will come. and thus i play KoA right now, and so far KoA has more hours played than skyrim. mostly i test mods in skyrim

in KoA, i play jack of all trades, you can combo all kinda of weapon n skills. man.. i spent a lot of times sorting equipments. trying combo this and that. and then there's blacksmith n sagecraft secret thing.

well at least for me, KoA is more kinda my type of game than Skyrim.

I like both games for different reasons. For me Skyrim is superior but what a luxury too "bounce from and to" when I get bored with one or the other.

It also depends on the mood I am in but the fighting combo's in KoA are great. So if action is what I want then defenitely KoA above an other game.

Skyrim is much, much better. Though I have not played more than the demo of Amalur, so I can't say for sure that Skyrim is better but Skyrim got one thing that beats almost all games.... Mods.

I will probably pick up Amalur some day for very cheap, but the demo did not leave a great impression, it just seemed bland and lacking in both detail and setting.

When I play KOA I miss Skyrim. When I play Skyrim I miss KOA.

I don't know what I'm trying to say.
