Trine 2 on Mac not loading
Hi,
I bought Trine 2 this weekend, but can't run it. When I try to run it from inside Steam, the Launcher runs just fine, but then when I click on "Start Trine 2" the launcher closes and nothing happens. It doesn't matter which options I choose. I tried also going to "~/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/trine 2" and running it trough "open Trine2.app". Running that way the app crashes, and I receive an error report with the message: "Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV) Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x00000000f753c045" (I didn't post it all because it's very long, but if it is needed I can post it). I have a Mid-2010 iMac, 3.06GHz i3 processor, 12GB of RAM and ATI Radeon HD 4670 graphic card, and I'm running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3. Any idea how I can solve this? I just tried running Trine 1. It used to run just fine some time ago. Now what is happening is just the opposite of Trine 2: The launcher is crashing, but if I try "open trine.app" directly it loads fine. |

(Did you send an email to support? Sounds very similar. Anyhow: )
This could be similar to an earlier issue with a user who had Australian English as the OS X language, and for some reason the game failed to detect online game region. Setting the language to plain English fixed it. If that's not it, please copypaste the first 50-100 lines of the error report. I'm mostly interested in the stuff it says about "Trine 2" or "frozenbyte" etc, it should be there quite near the top when it starts spewing out the technical/code stuff... __________________ // Joel, Frozenbyte team, developers of Trine, Trine 2, Shadowgrounds & SG Survivor - Follow us on Twitter |

No, I haven't send yet an e-mail to support, would it be better?
My language is set to "Português (Brasil)", but changing it to English didn't solve the problem. Bellow follows some lines of the error report, up to the last line Trine 2 is mentioned. I hope it helps. I think this is a Steam issue of sorts, the error stuff is not our code but something between Steam and the OS. Not sure what exactly or how to fix it... I'll PM you some further thoughts.

I also was having this problem after the Steam update. Hence why I came looking for answers here. Trine would just crash after the setting dialog box would close. In between waiting for my forum account to be activated, I ended up quitting Steam a couple of times and rebooting, and it did some updating thing a second time, and now Trine 2 works again.

I am having the same issue
I am having the same issue, and I have opened a support ticket with Steam. I have been able to work-around the problem by using the "steam.dmg" file from December 2011, and not allowing it to update. The problem seems to be related to the latest Steam client update. (I was having no problems until the latest client update was applied.)

Ah, that explains a lot. Thanks for the thoughts, hopefully that has solved the issue for everyone.

Yeap, last Steam update fixed the crash.
I had already started playing the game on the standalone version, but would like to go play on Steam to have better online multiplayer. Is there a way to transfer savefiles from the standalone version to the Steam version? Thanks, |

If you really want to give it a shot, this thread would be a good read first to get an idea of how Steam Cloud works. And here's what I've copied from another thread somewhere here on Steam Cloud and Trine 2 (sadly I didn't take note of the thread, but I think it was cl4ym4n helping everybody out again, credits to him): (Steam cloud has to be enabled in both the options.txt of Trine 2 and Steam itself) - Start a new game on save slot 1 - Save the game the first time you get control over Amadeus - Exit the game and let Steam sync/upload the savegame to the cloud - Navigate to Steam\userdata\<userid>\35720\remote - Delete the present slot1 file, copy over the slot1.fbs in there and rename it to slot1 - Start the game and re-select save slot 1 ingame (Settings -> Save Slot), if necessary - Profit Hope this helps a bit. __________________ // Joel, Frozenbyte team, developers of Trine, Trine 2, Shadowgrounds & SG Survivor - Follow us on Twitter |

It works!
Just had some trouble to find the standalone save file (it's on ~/Library/Trine2/ ), but after that the transfer of the save file worked fine. Now I will have to make the sacrifice of playing again to regain the achievements (which I knew wouldn't be transfered) and the secrets. Thanks, Leo |
