I just contacted support in the suggestions section because there is no actual support to contact i couldnt easily find it so i made a suggestion to fix the problem
This has been a problem for me for over 1 year and all i did was wait for a fix.. Now it looks like they dont care about the game and may not fix it... that may be the issue now but i contacted anyways.. |

They just tried to delete everything except the steam apps folder and steam.exe which they instructed.
Did not fix issue. I found every thread that had the same problem to proove that it never was fixed. I linked the problem to steam in my suggestions in the hope that they would notice that its unresolved in all threads. This is my attempt to make the steam employees notice that it has an issue and (still has one). I read that this is also an issue in Modern Warefare 3 in the MW3 forum. I highly doubt i will purchase MW3 unless they fix the MW2 code 2 error. I had this error about a year or two ago and thought if i waited a bit longer maybe they would have it fixed by the time i get around to play it. anyways enough back story. The game doesnt work and may never work. This error is so old that I almost couldnt believe that it still existed. Last edited by campcreekdude: 04-27-2012 at 05:49 PM. Reason: more info |

i believe support is not actually taking my claim seriously or they have many many steps before they start working in it.
I've tried uninstalling Steam many times several different ways. Updating steam several different ways. Reinstalling the game several different ways. All the same conclusion. It doesn't work. I will see what they suggest next week. |

^ dude be mad
I just bought MW2 this week and am having the same issue. (and yes the EXACT message) Things I've tried: Deleting clientregistry and re-dling Deleting everything except steam apps folder and steam.exe and updating Verifying game cache (on both single and multiplayer) Turning off my firewall/antivirus Currently trying: Deleted everything related to MW2 from my steam apps folder and redling everything. Someone mentioned a router restart. I'm currently living out of a motel (for work) and running wirelessly on a 56k connection (which obviously sucks). The ISP is also a small local isp that frequently blocks ports and bandwidth throttles during peak hours. Is this really just a connection issue? Anyone else have any other suggestions? Edit: This is the response i got from steam support. I didn't help me, but it might help others since I didn't see this solution posted anywhere else online: Quote:

I had this exact same problem for like a year now. It just started one day out of no where. I had been playing left 4 dead and battlefield 2 for a year at least no problems. Then one day out of the blue I got this error. I was jarateED! The games were old so I just gave up and stopped playing those games and vowed to never buy a steam game again.
STEAM support sucks. Sorry for the rant, but there is no excuse for this. Anyways, fast forward to present and I just bought Civ V, and damn them to hell, its forcing me to use steam again, argh! And guess what same problem. Well, out of just dumb luck, I thought I would try "Run as administrator" Of course that option is grayed out for the steam icon for whatever reason. So then I went to the folder where steam is installed and right-clicked on the actual steam.exe and selected "Run as administrator" and it worked! Go figure. Hope this helps. Good luck, I feel your pain. |

easy fix and solution to your problem, google fourdeltaone install the mod
let the game verify you have steam and bought the game close steam play mw2 steam support is less than useless every gammer has to fix their own problems when steam messes up, granted it doesn't seem this is an issue for many but it looks like a few Try this method if fourdeltaone isnt to your licking 1. Since you tried everything time to try this Format the PC fully un-plug all wireless totally so you just have your connection hard-wired in. once windows is installed just install video card/sound dirvers reboot the PC now install motherboard drivers nothing else. Install steam to D:\steam not the C drive Once steam is installed don't download your games yet. go to google and look for "Take Ownership Windows 7.reg" Install this registry file now close steam down completely. reboot the PC When the PC has re-started you are going to want to disable the windows firewall for now, And DISABLE UAC (User Account Control) Once thats done, right click the steam icon exe not the shortcut and you will now see Take ownership of this file click it. Now install modern warfare 2 once the game is installed close steam, re-open it then verify cache, once thats done close steam again. Right click steam.exe choose again take ownership of this file. open steam run modern warfare 2 Good luck! you should now be playing in no time. |
