DR2 is Really Really laggy

I bought this to play with a friend and we both have the same problem of seriously low FPS. This causes co-op to disconnect us, in addition to being very hard to play. I've got a good computer that can run games like TF2 or L4D on high with no problems, and I've set everything in DR2 to low with no change in the slow-motion style gameplay. Is there anything I can do about this?

You both need Open NAT + UPNP enabled on your PC's.

So how would I do that? If it matters I'm at a university with all ports opened; the problem remains in single player.
