Custom maps don't work

Dear Steam. As you can see from this thread , custom maps don't work on the Steam version of the game. The reason seems somehow to be related to the lack of an "!" in the My documents path created by the Steam version.

I have tried all the solutions proposed on the Custom maps forum without success. Pls help me someone, the custom content is really too good to miss.
