For lots and lots of details about the DLC, see this thread:
http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=1780675 Short story is that it breaks the game subtly, but not fatally. Even if you ignore 0 cost items, you get ammo drops for guns you don't own, and the schematics are rendered useless. Best bet is to play it sans DLC on your first play through, to make the game play the way the devs intended. After you are no longer new to it, play the Steam version, and have the fun of new toys. (You can get the sans-DLC version from Origin, or send me a PM, and I'll send you the original file.) |

Will DS2 play without origin? I may pick it up if it will. I detest origin and refuse to let it infect my computer.
There may be a way to shut down Origins "phone home" ports it uses to data mine though and keep the block specific to the origin application. If I could do that I would run origin for one game and one game only ToR. |

The retail version also doesn't need Origin. If you want to use the supposed "fix" in this thread by registering your DS2 key you got through Steam in Origin, then you obviously will have to install and use Origin to play the DLC-free version, though.

Complaining about Steam versions of DS2 providing the DLC (for free) that EA charged their console players for and promoting the use of Origin?
This must be how Isaac feels as he goes slowly insane. I got my copy of DS2 for free off of Amazon with a coupon and a 75% Off deal awhile back, so I didn't get any free DLCs. Me sad...oh well, at least if DS1 had any DLC content then I know Steam gave it to me. Playing games in backwards order

the dlc spoils the game for people who wanted to see the game as the devs intended and giving people unlocks from the start is just meh. contratual i bet or they couldnt agree who was going to fix it.
i personally dont like EA much and didnt buy this game until it was cheap. i would buy dead space 3 if it was made by the same people. edit: and didnt have to install origin. just run throught it twice. damn good job viscereal games. Last edited by gromet: 04-28-2012 at 10:36 AM. |

I don't understand. The DLC being given out was done so via a patch released by EA. This patch can affect all copies of Dead Space 2, not just Steam.
Does Origin just install a non-patched version? And if you tell Steam to not keep Dead Space 2 updated, you couldn't just revert DS2 back to 1.0? EDIT: For where to get the 1.0 exe to downgrade back to retail: http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=2460661 Last edited by kaijin2k11: 04-29-2012 at 06:48 PM. |

As noted in that other thread, EA shipped the original patched version that included the free DLC as a perk for PC gamers who were unable to get the smaller add on games like Ignition.
This was then shipped by Steam as the latest version, including the bug fixes for controls. Later, EA decided to pull that version, and now only ships the original version on Origin. It's bizarre. So we as Steam users actually have both worlds if we want them. |
