Tips For New Players?

I just bought the Napoleonic Wars expansion and am loving it, but I'm sure there are quite a few things I still don't know about the game. So, do any of you veterans have advice or info on that might be a little less than obvious to a noob? I was surprised about how little information there is about the game on the interwebs. The most helpful I found was the instruction manual on the M&B website.

Well the best way of learning really is just playing it as much as you can. I would also recommend hanging out a bit on the taleworlds forum:

You will also want to check out the manual in pdf form:

I started out just by selecting the most popular line infantry and staying with the groups. One thing to remember is that you are using a musket, it only has maybe an effective range of 100-150 yards on a clear day. Generally the line infantry are good all 'arounders' with decent shooting and melee skills. The riflemen use rifles (duh) which are slightly more accurate but take longer to reload. Also when used in melee the rifles do less damage and have less reach than a musket with a bayonet. I believe the foot guard are the best at melee. The instruments, flags when carried and officers all give buffs too for their specific regiment.

If you have specific questions just ask. I am sure someone here will know the answer. Good luck on the battlefield!

- Even as a riflemen, you aren't a sniping "OMG CHECK MY AWESOME k/d RATIO" machine. If more than 1 in 3 shots hits a target, you're doing fantastically.
- This mod is based on Napoleonic Wars, and as such, you should be able to find it fun to line up in a group of people and launch a wall of lead in the general direction of the enemy, and be fine with dying. If, as I alluded to in the point above, you are one of those people who has to have a 10:1 K/D, you are playing the wrong game/mod
- Press C as often as you can.

I think one small detail that can make it easier to hit is the fact that the game player location is server side for the most part, this mean that you need to lead your targets to hit something. The enemies are not where you see them, but ahead of their movement, this is why if you have a high ping you will seem to hit the target on your screen while in reality you totally off.

Happy it help.

An other small trick is to alternate your melee attack direction when getting close to your enemies. This may prevent him from blocking in the right direction. So for example you get close with a low attack, the enemy will defend low, at the last moment you switch to a high attack, most enemies won't change their defense.

- Aim and fire weapons in 1st person mode*
- Don't spend too much time in 1st person mode, makes you an easy target for the (silent) cavalry
- Do everything else in 3rd person mode and ALWAYS check your surroundings meanwhile - even in a large group
- Overhead attack will make it easier to take out cavalry
- Do NOT run away or hide if you are the last person alive of your team in battle mode - fight like a man and don't let people wait

* this is just my personal opinion, just find out what you like, but I honestly think 1st person mode is more accurate because it actually shows your point of view.

^^That is golden advice, just press R to enter 1st person view when you fire and press R again to leave it as soon as the shot is off, melee (X) is MUCH easier in third person.

When you advance on the enemy line, dont zig zag with the A and D keys to avoid bullets, this will slow you down, instead keep W pressed while turning your mouse to run in at 45 degree angles, that way you keep your momentum going.

Remember to press C a lot.
