But questioning admins = ban?
I can see why you think drippy's is the worse based on your personal experience and that is fine, but I would have to say their server is about equal when it comes to complaints by others, everyone just pretends you're a cry baby and sweeps it under the rug.

but this is exactly my point, this game will never expand larger than what it currently is, it will only get smaller, just based off peoples attitudes and approach of handling things, I mean obviously everyone seems to be perfectly fine with what tfc has to offer, making tfc free or giving it away for free isn't going to help, think these people with the free copy are going to play the game if they're new and need help learning to play but instead people are just s to them, kick them and ban them, no chance for these new players.

And that my friends, is why TFC is going to die, we have this community of players who already know how to play, complaining about these new players checking out the game, the new players eventually get kicked/banned for not playing at the novices skill level, then the newbies stop playing and don't get to experience the full taste of TFC, there is no winning, the only way that these newbies can get a fair shot is by taking the years of practice many of you have taken to learn about all the special little things this game has to offer, which they cant, since most people don't want to play with them, because they dont know how to play.

You guys act like there is some sort of hope for the game, that if people cleaned up their act, everything would magically be better.

The fact is that TFC has been on a decline in players for over 10 years now. If we couldn't get the game to grow when it had a million players, what makes you think we can do it now when it has 80?

I don't think the game will ever return to the epic pre-Steam amount of players it once boasted. However, over time, people have just become too hard to please. It's to the extent of someone being a wine snob or a music snob.

"If that server has one bot, I don't care. I'm not playing. On that same token, if no one is playing, I will not attempt to get a game going."

It's as if someone goes to a department store they can't stand, complain about how it is "shutting out mom and pop [smaller servers]" but yet that 'mom and pop' store is across the street, readily available but there is always an excuse not to go there.

There are many factors one must realize to shoot this game up with adrenaline:
- Providing it free of charge
- Gift it to friends who don't have it and set up games
- Set up games on empty or scarcely populated servers
- Work with newer players on learning the basics

The first night I started TFC (waaay back in 2001), I remember playing Badlands and grabbing the flag. I had no idea where the hell to go. A veteran player was nice enough to show me where the capture point was and helped me on that server the first few nights I played there until I got the hang of the game. I thought it was cool that someone who was good at the game was patient enough to teach a newcomer how to play....and I've played this game almost religiously for 11 years now.

The point? The game can still retain a reasonable level of popularity if we can use classic methods such as being patient and willing to teach -- but most of all, WORD OF MOUTH. Gifting the game to friends has resulted in some of my friends who never played TFC before to become addicts. It just requires a gentle push.

There use to be a movement that actually encourgaed this behavior and players that were like minded carried the tag of -TPF.

*sniffle* those were the days. =(

I had many conversation with several friends about TFC, and they all sounded interested in playing it. I bought it for all of them as a Christmas present, and then they all admit they (a) were lying about being interested or (b) have Macs.

Was a bit of a shock, to say the least.

tl;dr I tried what Chuck Bronson suggested and failed miserably. hopefully others can do better.

I have to agree with the OP here. I just bought and downloaded this game for the first time in many years. I used to be really heavy into it back before everything switched to steam. I played with a very active clan [3sfg], and some of my very best gaming memories came from this game.

Now, I log back on and the community is simply disrespectful. I cannot ask a simply question without not just the usual snide remark, but complete rudeness because I don't have omnipotent knowledge.

This game is great, but the community will not help it continue. It will die.

I wish they would remake it, exactly the same, but updated graphics. I love that you can just log in and be on the same level as everyone else. I hate how fps's these days allow you to "rank up." Let's just get out there and master the general classes, and do our part to help our team.

Great game. Poor community.

Great game. Poor community.
Try another community. Pro tip: Royston Vasey works best. #roystonvasey in Quakenet.

If you think the game would be any better with updated graphics, you're wrong. If you don't think so, then it would be a waste of time/money grab.

Second part, I agree.

There's already a remake out, it's a third-party mod though.

Fortress Forever has some changed game mechanics though. For example: Enemy spy can take over your sentry gun and claim it as his own. Kind of interesting but pretty annoying at the same time.

I would just like to take the time to thank that former old player/freshly new player for stepping up and agreeing my post, just goes to show how new players are treated and why the community is only getting smaller instead of larger, so for that i thank you, redbema. i truly hope this entire thread has open everyone's eye's I seen a few people trying to change like evil master I cant say for sure if hes changed though because I could clearly see that he acts 100% different on this forum than he does when hes privately in his own comfort zone aka on his server/or in email, but l.o.d and the gas chamber guy just throw it under the rug like any other complaint, we must be criers or people that was banned lolol.not.

I haven't been active in 3 weeks in my administration role, I have other things to worry about, I understand theres a lot of problems on the servers, which is why I look for admins that I can leave alone and trust them to do their job without abusing their power. Easier said than done.. people still send me emails all the time instead of using the system on our webpage, and all of these emails are just being discarded because I dont have time like I used to anymore, which is why these tools are available, the admins that actually play probably know about these problems a lot better than I do. It is now summer, and I am being reminded that more than ever with all of the phone calls I've been receiving, my personal life has now become too busy for me to sit around and play games anymore, so instead of emailing ME about these hackers, you'd be better off just using the shoutbox at our website (www.esclan.net) or the contact form, so admins can pick it up from there and do something about it.
